May 12, 2020 – LEXINGTON, KY – New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program was one of three organizations to receive a grant from the newly formed Standardbred Transition Alliance (STA) during its inaugural accreditation and granting process.

Formed in the fall of 2018 to inspect, accredit and provide monetary grants to organizations that pass a rigorous screening process, the STA funds organizations that acquire, rehabilitate, retrain and rehome Standardbred horses. New Vocations is honored to be one the of first recipients to be accredited and awarded a grant from the STA.

“We are deeply thankful for the generous donation from the STA, which will allow us to continue to rehab, retrain and rehome retiring Standardbred racehorses,” said Winne Nemeth, Standardbred Program Director for New Vocations. “We’re excited about the creation of this organization and are inspired by how the Standardbred industry has come together to support these horses in second careers.”

The STA is an industry-driven nonprofit formed when it was recognized that the organizations already in existence were operating at or beyond their capacity to serve Standardbreds leaving the track. The grants provided to accredited organizations by the STA will financially assist them in their quest to retrain, retire or rehome retiring Standardbreds. The structure in place to become accredited and thus receive grant money encourages organizational management, business practices and adoption policies in line with STA core values. Accreditation will give donors confidence that their financial gifts are being used responsibly and are having a direct impact on retiring Standardbreds and those in need of careers outside of racing.

New Vocations has Standardbreds retraining for second careers in both its Sunbury and Hamilton, Ohio, locations. The next STA grant application window opens July 1.
