Over $40,000 Raised to Support New Vocations on Giving Tuesday
Lexington, Ky. – November 29, 2023 – New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program celebrated a successful Giving Tuesday, raising over $40,000 for their mission to rehab, retrain, and rehome retired racehorses. Giving Tuesday, an annual generosity movement celebrated across the globe, fell on November 28th this year. Churchill Downs Incorporated, alongside their nine racetrack properties, generously pledged to match the first $20,000 raised by New Vocations in support of both Thoroughbred and Standardbred aftercare.
Over 100 supporters in the equestrian and racing communities rallied together in support of New Vocations’ aftercare program. Donors shared throughout the day their reasons for giving, including donations in honor of their beloved New Vocations’ adoptees and horse racing owners and fans happy to contribute towards ensuring retired racehorses’ transition into new careers.
“It was really great to see support come in from so many of our adopters and supporters along with many new contributors via our social media communities,” shared Anna Ford, New Vocations Thoroughbred Program Director. “We are very grateful for Churchill Downs Incorporated’s match as it was a huge help and definitely jump started the campaign. The funds raised will go towards the day-to-day costs associated with caring for the over 150 horses currently in our program.”
As a nonprofit organization, New Vocations relies on donations to carry out its mission. Founded in 1992 to provide retired racehorses a new purpose after the finish line, the organization has continued to grow as aftercare has become more widely discussed and accepted. Over the last 3 decades, the program has served more than 8,500 horses, finding them experienced, loving homes for their years off the track.
